     Professor Sambamurti was into Pan research in Tamil Isai sangam from 1949.

He headed the conferences till his death. In the year 1957 he was given the 
title "Isaipperarignar" by the Tamil Isai Sangam, along with M.M.Dandapani desigar and
Kumbakonam Rajamanickkam Pillai. It was during Professor Sambamurti's Period the 
Tamil Isai Sangam finalised the equivalent present day ragas for the Pans that are 
handled by the Tevaram trinity in their Tevaram. 
     Sambamurti has written about music theory in Tamil in his three volumes of the
book, Practical course in Karnatik music. He published a book titled"Tamil songs-I"
which contains notation for three Tamil folk songs. Sambamurti was the first person 
to publish folk songs with notation. In that book he has also published some tevarams
with notation.
     Sambamurti has also written about Arunachala Kavi, MarimuttaPillai, Muttutandavar and 
Gopalakrishna Bharathi. He has also written about Lakshmana Pillai who created the 
raga amarasenapriya, in memory of Emerson
